On 15 October 2026, local performers will bring six stories by young Gazan writers to the stage at the Art Deco, Ballymote, joining theatres, universities, and public spaces on every continent in a single day of global cultural resistance.
The date honours Anqa performer Abraham Saidam, killed by a bombing in Gaza on 15 October 2023, the day his company's first production was due to open in Italy. His fellow artists chose to turn that loss into art, entrusting their experience to writing rather than silence. Anqa is a theatre collective born from an initiative by Progetto REC. It is composed of authors and artists from Gaza and Italy who, through theatre and writing, transform their own experience into a direct, human, and unfiltered testimony.
Donations are welcome on the evening, with proceeds going to the Jafra Centre in Jabalia, Gaza, supporting medical clinics, tent schools, and children's activities. The Sligo staging is brought to Art Deco, Ballymote with support from the Sligo Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
The world is preparing to resonate in unison: to break the silence, to give a voice to those living under siege, and to ensure that the word becomes a seed of hope.
