Join Research Archaeologist Martin A. Timoney for a fascinating hour exploring Archaeological Recognitions in Connacht and Clare from 1966 to 2026.
For six decades this lecturer has been making many archaeological recognitions in Connacht and Clare. He will illustrate some of these with the story behind the story and tell how important to the archaeology of Ireland they are. Topics will include megalithic tombs, Later Bronze Age pins with rings, Early Medieval sculpture, features of High Medieval churches, family papers, foreign connections, pitfields and a Medieval boundary in Co. Roscommon, fellow antiquarians and researchers, publications, etc.
The lecturer from Knocknarea, lived in Cliffoney and now lives in Keash. He taught Maths at Second Level for 29 years in Scarriff and Castlerea before and an equally long career as a professional research archaeologist. He has served on the Committee of Sligo Field Club for fifty years.
He has published in TCH, SFCJ, NMAJ, etc., and has edited two books of essays about Sligo, and a considerable portion of the volumes of Sligo Field Club Journal to date. Greater detail of some of the lecture topics are to be found in his publications.
