Ages: 0-12months
Spend some special ‘unhurried time’ with your little one. Artist Jackie Maguire will create a social nurturing space for babies and parent(s)/carers to come and simply be together. The Tiny Trees workshop series is new work created by Jackie Maguire in collaboration with local artists and is inspired by Niall Mac Coitir's book titled ‘Ireland's Trees’ and the Ogham Tree calendar.
Jackie has been joined by artists Sorcha O'Malley and Alison Hunter this year and will collaborate with local artist Miriam Needham in September and October for Tiny Apple on the 8th September and Tiny Samhain on the 31st of October.
Both parent and baby will be transported into a fantastical Irish mythical world where time moves slowly, where relationships are nurtured and where you can connect with your child and other parents/carers. The final two performative workshops in the Tiny Trees series will respond to the stories associated with the Apple Tree and the Tree of Power/Bile Buadha through light and shadow play, drama, music and dance.
Miriam Needham is a theatre-maker from Co. Leitrim. She writes and creates her own work, as well as regularly collaborating with other artists to make work for stage. She has performed and toured with companies such as Rose Producing, Dead Centre, Blue Raincoat, Branar, and Hawk’s Well Theatre. Past productions as a writer and director include Welcome To Your New Upgrade (winner of the Audience Award at Cork Arts Theatre 10x10 Event 2024), Wonder Horse (Cairde Arts Festival 2024), and Hear Me Speak! Recent collaborations as a dramaturg/director include Nothing But An Old Weed by Fiona Maria Fitzpatrick, Soil Story by Jackie Maguire and Trisha MacLaughlin and Gazelle by Sinéad Sexton. She was Artist-in-Residence at Hawk’s Well Theatre 2021-2024, a Druid FUEL artist in 2021, and an associate artist with Super Paua in 2022. Her prose writing has been published in HOWL New Irish Writing and Banshee, as well as being placed in various competitions (Cúirt New Writing Prize, Dingle Lit Short Story Competition, Edinburgh Short Story Award). Her work has been supported by Create, Creative Ireland, and The Arts Council of Ireland.
