The Lodger

Silent Cinema presents The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog - Alfred Hitchcock’s haunting early masterpiece and one of the earliest surviving films of his career.

This 1927 British silent thriller follows a mysterious young man (played by matinee idol Ivor Novello) who takes up residence in a London boarding house, while the city is gripped by fear of a Jack the Ripper–style serial killer.

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the film also stars Marie Ault, Arthur Chesney, June Tripp, and Malcolm Keen. Based on the 1913 novel by Marie Belloc Lowndes and the play Who Is He?, it remains a landmark of early suspense cinema.

This special screening will feature live piano accompaniment, bringing Hitchcock’s atmospheric vision vividly to life.
