Sligo Live presents Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh Band, with special guests Tom Campbell Trio!
Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh is a multi-award-winning traditional singer and a leading exponent of the seannós style. She is celebrated for the warmth, clarity, and expressive power of her voice, and for her ability to communicate the depth of Ireland’s song tradition to audiences worldwide. Named RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Singer of the Year in 2022, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh stands today as one of the most important voices in Irish traditional music. She currently hosts her own acclaimed music series Folk on One on RTÉ Radio 1, where she continues to champion traditional and folk music for a wide audience.
For this special concert, Muireann is joined by a star-studded ensemble of some of Ireland’s most accomplished traditional musicians and composers. Including, Michael Rooney is one of Ireland’s leading harpers and composers. Dónal O’Connor is a leading fiddle player and producer from the Oriel region, acclaimed for his extensive production credits and collaborations across Irish and Scottish traditions. Becky Ní Éallaithe, a gifted young seannós dancer and concertina player from Conamara. Mick O’Brien, the legendary Dublin uilleann piper and Neil Martin, renowned Belfast cellist, composer, and arranger.
Tom Campbell Trio is a vibrant presence in the Scottish traditional music scene, blending Scottish and Irish influences with contemporary innovation. Formed in 2018, the trio consists of Tom Campbell on flute, Callum Convoy on bodhrán, and Gillie O’Flaherty on guitar. Their sound fuses original compositions with traditional folk, infused with a modern edge. The trio garnered significant recognition as finalists at the BBC Folk Awards 2019 and as winners of the 2021 Battle of the Folk Bands. The Tom Campbell Trio offers a fresh, exhilarating interpretation of traditional music, stretching boundaries while honouring their rich cultural heritage.
