Don't miss it, it's going to be a laugh!
Get ready for six days of non-stop laughs as the So Funny Sligo Comedy Festival brings the best of comedy to venues across Sligo town and county from February 10th to 15th. With something for all ages, the festival features nightly stand-up gigs, a family-friendly comedy magic show, a comedy quiz, the prestigious Ha Ha Hawk’s Well Comedy Award Night for new talent, an art exhibition, and much more!
With over 20 acts, 10+ shows, 7 venues, and 6 days of comedy, the festival promises an unforgettable experience for locals and visitors alike.
The fun kicks off on Monday, February 10th, at The Dunes Bar in Strandhill. Headliners include renowned comedians such as Karl Spain, David McSavage, Shane Daniel Byrne, Aideen McQueen, Martin Angolo, The Kendy & Raybo Podcast, Eddie Mullarkey, and more. The festival also highlights fresh talent, with support slots filled by rising stars from the Sligo Comedy Club.
Highlights of the Week:
The festival will bring comedy to venues in Strandhill, Grange, and Sligo Town. Don’t miss these standout shows:
- Karl Spain’s “World Tour of Sligo” spanning three nights of hilarity.
- The ever-popular Craic Den Comedy Club from Dublin performing over two nights at The Garavogue Bar.
- A live podcast recording of Kendy & Raybo at the Hawk’s Well Theatre, featuring special guests, including MEP Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan and Mayo podcaster Alan Clarke.
- Festival favorite Eddie Mullarkey delivering laughs in multiple gigs, including a solo show at Lillies Bar on Thursday.
Festival organiser Brendan Tierney shared his excitement about reaching this milestone: "Five years is a great landmark to get to. It is extremely difficult running events early in the year, so I’m hoping the people of Sligo get those tickets early to reduce the pre-festival stress! As always, I’m delighted to have a diverse range of gigs in multiple venues. More gigs mean more workload, and with minimal funding, it is a tricky balancing act to make it work. The festival supports so many acts, venues, staff, crew, and local businesses, so any support is greatly appreciated. Even for people to share events on social media or WhatsApp groups is a massive help when you have a tiny budget.
As well as the nightly comedy gigs, we have a family magic show on Saturday afternoon with Colm Dawson at the Hawk’s Well Theatre and a comedy quiz at The Belfry Bar on Wednesday.”
After its successful debut in 2024, the Ha Ha Hawk’s Well Comedy Award is back, bigger and better than ever! Last year’s event showcased eight fresh Irish comedy talents competing for the grand prize of €1,000 and the coveted trophy. This year, the competition has expanded with five heats held in Sligo, Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Derry, with the winners earning their spot in the grand final. The final slot will be drawn from online entries.
Brendan credited Terry Markey for his efforts in expanding the competition and added, “Last year’s winner, Shannon Basso Gaule, will return to perform on the night as well.”
The festival is just weeks away, so don’t wait to secure your spot! Tickets are available at the Hawk’s Well Theatre Box Office (in person), by phone, or online at www.sofunnysligo.com.
