Grace, written by Jody O’Neill – and which had a successful premiere run at Baboró, Dublin Theatre Festival and Cork Midsummer Festival – tells the story of a girl who has a relationship with her father where no words are needed. In fact, Grace doesn’t use words to speak at all. When her father dies suddenly, Grace needs to find a new way to communicate. This exciting production – now on a national tour – explores the universal themes of grief and communication as Grace and her father invite you into the multisensory landscape of Grace’s world.
Produced by Once Off Productions, in association with Graffiti Theatre Company. Funded by the Arts Council.
All performances are relaxed and audio described, and contain creatively-embedded access including captions.
"Here is a little review of our experience watching 'Grace' at the Graffiti theatre.
Grace is an immersive experience in the best way, our children could see, feel, and almost interact with the performance in such a singular way.
Everything was considered. It was an accessible experience in a way that I have not yet experienced.
Their communication needs were considered; they have a sensory corner that one of our girls used to watch the performance from.
The children were so enthralled by the silhouetted aspects of the performance that they did such a good job of portraying a very difficult story in an impactful yet non-confronting way. Basically, we enjoyed every second and would come again!"
"Our 3rd class really enjoyed the play Grace and engaged with the story. Some found it quite emotional but left the theatre on a high. Their questions to the crew were interesting and showed that they engaged with the story and themes involved. I thought the play was well targeted at this age group (as well as others). Thanks again!"
