Curation Opportunity for Young Traditional Musicians

2023

Each summer since 2018, we have produced a free lunchtime series presenting and showcasing a wide range of local traditional music acts in our foyer space. Since 2020, the series has been curated by teenage musicians from the region who curate the series and choose the line-up of duets and trios that will be presented over the course of June, July and August at the theatre.

Are you aged 15 – 18 years old and interested in creating a series of lunchtime traditional music concerts? Would you like to work with Hawk’s Well Theatre to design and select an exciting programme of traditional music concerts featuring local musicians that you love playing together?

Sound like you? We would love to hear from you and are keen to work with two young people who will lead on creating this wonderful series of 13 lunchtime concerts to be presented from June to August at the theatre.

This project promises to be an amazing opportunity to connect with musicians across the county and to play a part in bringing exciting work to audiences.

The Curators will ideally:

· Be from Sligo or have strong connections or links to the county
· Have a passion for traditional Irish music
· Enjoy working with people
· Like organising events and making things happen
This is a paid role and the Curators will be supported by the Hawk’s Well team to develop the programme.

The deadline for applications is Friday 27th January at 5pm.

To apply for this opportunity, please email director@hawkswell.ie using “Trad@Lunch - Young Curators” in the subject line, telling us in 500 words or less:
· About yourself and what you love about traditional Irish music
· Why you should get this opportunity
· Where are you based and what connections you have to Sligo
· Why would you like to participate as a curator in our project
