Take a trip to The South Pole From Your Living Room with Tom Crean - Antarctic Explorer
With the winter closing in, and the weather outside as torrid as that faced by even the hardiest expedition, what better time to close the curtains, huddle beneath a warm blanket, and switch on for some polar adventures!
Even the most challenging conditions were no match for intrepid explorer Tom Crean, and although Hawk’s Well Theatre is currently closed, the show – like the odyssey must go on! Bringing his story to life on Saturday 7th November, in response to the Government’s Level 5 restrictions, the planned live performance of the theatre show Tom Crean Antarctic Explorer has moved, and instead of a seat in the theatre, audiences can now watch from home via a new Hawk’s Well streaming experience!
Crean’s story is a testament of human fortitude against all the elements of the Antarctic. His 36 mile, solitary trek to base camp during the Terra Nova expedition to rescue his comrades Teddy Evans and William Lashly, has been described by Antarctic historians as “the finest feat of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration”. He was subsequently awarded the Albert Medal for his bravery.
A global hit making a welcome return Sligo following its sell-out October 2019 showing at the Hawk’s Well, this humorous and enthralling show has been a hit across the world.
This multi-award winning show has now played critically acclaimed sell-out performances to over quarter of a million people throughout Ireland, USA, Australia, Europe and the U.K., with Emer O’Kelly at the Sunday Independent calling it; “a remarkable and uplifting piece of theatre, gives everything and asks nothing”, while Gina Bellafante of the New York Times praised the show as; “an unparalleled portrayal" of the explorer.
“I see his story as kind of a lighthouse for people, it's all about human resilience and the best things about humanity.” says the multiple award winning actor and playwright Aidan Dooley.
Hear the riveting true stories of Crean’s Antarctic explorations as one of the few men to serve with both Scott and Shackleton and survive the three famous expeditions: Discovery, (1901 – 1904); Terra Nova (1910 – 1913); and Endurance (1914 - 1916).
From the comfort of your sofa, watch Aidan Dooley’s critically acclaimed production about the life and times of Tom Crean, the intrepid Antarctic explorer and one of Ireland’s unsung heroes, when it is streamed by the Hawk’s Well Theatre, Saturday 7th November at 8pm. Tickets, priced at €10 are available now. For enquiries or to book, visit www.hawkswell.com.
