Struggling for New Years Resolutions? Try A New Course for the New Year.
2 January, 2019

2019 has just begun, and there is a great range of courses and workshops coming up this year at the Hawk’s Well Theatre for those who fancy trying something new, or brushing up on their skills. Whether its acting, singing or dancing, there's something for everyone at the Hawk's Well.

For children, regular favourites will continue to run at the theatre, such as the popular SingSkool Mini programme, an exciting pre-instrumental music programme enabling children to explore orchestral instruments, musical literacy and singing. With classes on Saturday mornings for ages 6 months up to five years old and a Wednesday morning Beat Buddy Babies specially for babies (6 mths to 3 years);  this is a great place for children to explore the world of music. Toddler drama classes with Deirdre Gaule return again in January. This six week course is a gentle introduction to drama, dance and movement for ages 18 months to three years and gives parents an opportunity to share some special bonding time with their little one.

Drama at the Well for ages 4 – 10 year olds also return in January. With an 11.30am class on a Saturday morning for 4-6 year olds and a 4pm class for those aged 7-10 on a Thursday,  this fun and engaging drama course run by experienced tutor Deirdre Gaule encourages young children to act and participate in many different activities specially designed to explore creativity and build confidence.

Singings workshops with Michele Feeney start back in January also for ages 6 – 12. Michele’s vocal coaching sessions for children and adults will have you singing with full force, hitting all the right notes.

There’s a chance for per-schoolers to learn Sean Nós dancing with Anna Lethert with classes for 3 to 5 year olds starting on Saturday afternoons at the theatre in January. This six week course will invite pre-schoolers to learn steps, rhythms and beats in traditional Irish dance in a supportive and fun environment.

There are myriad courses for adults starting in January, beginning with Brian Leyden - On Storytelling, which starts on Wednesday 2nd January. A course where writers will be encouraged to produce their own writing, this is suitable for the committed beginner and those who have been writing for some time.

Michele Feeney’s vocal workshops start on Tuesday 8th of January and continue for 12 weeks. It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or improver, in Michele's workshops she will travel through all aspects of your voice, and will have you singing with full force, hitting all the right notes.

A new series of Bodhrán Workshops with bodhrán master John Joe Kelly begins on Monday, January 14th, running for six weeks with a course for beginners and one for improvers.

There’s another chance to try your hand at acting with a six week Acting for Adults course starting on Monday January 14th. Actor and founding member of Shared Light Theatre Company Isabel Claffey will give adults of all ages a chance to explore and develop their acting skills. Suitable for people with little or no acting experience.

Following the success of last year’s Sligo Acts drama programme, the theatre will once more run Sligo Acts in 2019. This fun acting programme will take place throughout February and March, culminating in a performance on Sunday 24 March 2019. Suitable for those with plenty of performances under their belt and those just starting to tread the boards. The programme kicks off with an introductory workshop on Sunday 27th of January from 2 to 5pm.

The theatre’s popular social singing evenings, Sing for the hell of it!, continue into 2019 with monthly meet-ups (Tues 29 Jan, Tues 26 Feb & Mon 26 March) open to everyone and anyone who likes to sing.

To celebrate World Book Day in March, the popular ‘Books & Hot Chocolate’ workshop for children ages 7 -9 years will take place on Saturday 9th of March. This junior book club for children will meet to talk about brilliant books and fantastical characters. Children will take part in a fun craft making activity and enjoy an entertaining storytelling session with a tasty hot chocolate.

With lots of great ways to start of the new year, visit Hawk's Well theatre to put you in step for 2019.
