New Hawk’s Well Weekly Online Programme

New Hawk’s Well Weekly Online Programme
26 March, 2020

While the theatre building is closed, the Hawk's Well team have been working to create an online programme of events to keep our customers entertained during this surreal and strange time. Below you will find our weekly online programme of events. Most of these events can be viewed on facebook and this schedule will be updated regularly on the Hawk's Well website and social media pages.

Sligo Sings for the Hell of It! We are excited to share our plans with you for our new Hawk’s Well Theatre’s sing along project - Sligo Sings for the Hell of It! and really hope that you will join in the fun with us and sing along! We have released 3 short videos featuring our wonderful Choirmaster, Dave Flynn singing three different harmonies. Your job is to pick one video (or all, if you're feeling productive), and listen to it a few times. Once you've wrapped your head around it, we would like you to record yourself singing along with Dave and send your video to us. We will then compile all the videos into a glorious Sligo Sings for the Hell of It! performance which we look forward to sharing with you all soon!
Come Together - The Isolation Collective: Sligo’s theatre and music artists respond: 10 theatre artists – 10 composers - 10 new pieces of work.  Artists are resilient, resourceful and perfectly placed to respond and reflect on the world we find ourselves in right now and so we are inviting a selection of local theatre and music artists to come together and create new work collaboratively at this time. Full details of this exciting collaborative project will be announced soon and we look forward to sharing the resulting work with you over the next few weeks.  If you are interested in supporting our Come Together programme – please get in touch on info@hawkswell.com

On Friday 27th March, we celebrate World Theatre Day with two performances on the Hawk's Well facebook page.

12pm: Cyprus Avenue. David Ireland’s Cyprus Avenue is a multi-award-winning play and production starring Stephen Rea and directed by Vicky Featherstone. It premiered in the Abbey Theatre in 2016 in a co-production between the Royal Court Theatre and the Abbey Theatre, the critically acclaimed production has also been performed in London, Belfast, and New York. The filmed adaptation mixes live capture of the performance from the stage of the Royal Court with location shooting in Belfast.Content Warning: Cyprus Avenue is recommended for anyone 18+. It contains strong language, discussion of sectarian themes and scenes of extreme violence that some viewers may find disturbing.
8pm: The Ballad of Burke and Hare One of our favourite Hawk’s Well projects of 2019 was The Takeover wherein a group of exceptionally talented secondary school students of Sligo took over the theatre for a day. We offered them the opportunity to run a programme of their choice and of their making and the original theatre show they decided to write, produce and perform themselves blew us all away! We are delighted to offer you a chance to see this incredible production of a true tale in your own home in celebration of World Theatre Day 2020. Suitable for ages 16+.

Also on Saturday 28th of March at 8pm: Gerry Grennan Celebration Night: 1st Half and Sunday 29th of March at :8pm: Gerry Grennan Celebration Night: 2nd Half. In Feb 2020, we produced and presented a long overdue celebration night for the inimitable Gerry Grennan, one of the most loved and respected musicians and music teachers in Sligo. Musicians from near and far gathered to join him for one of the most epic and joyous concerts we have ever had the privilege of hosting. Proceeds from the night went to Parkinson’s Ireland North West Branch, a charity that is very close to Gerry’s heart and we were delighted to present them with a fund of €4K raised by this celebration night just last week.
