Hawk's Well Theatre new brochure for Sept - Dec is out now! Featuring a great line-up of theatre, music, talks, comedy & courses, our new brochure is available to pick up throughout the county, from our box office and also available to download online.
Theatre lovers will have plenty of choice, with shows starring Donal O’Kelly, Pat Kinevane and Seamus O’Rourke as well as a line-up of local productions by Beezneez, Everyman, Crokey Hill Players and the ever popular Coolera Dramatic Society’s annual pantomime. An exciting off-site theatre event will also take place; Deepwater Rambler, a new piece of theatre was commissioned by the theatre, written by Bob Kelly and will take place at Ballast Quay in the heart of Sligo docklands.
Music highlights include David Kitt, Gretchen Peters, Cherish the Ladies and the 21st Kieran Quinn Theme Night, titled Duets in addition to the theatre’s inaugural Sligo Pops concert, A Night at the Movies, featuring music from the all-time favourite film scores, and the second installment of the theatre’s Tradroque music series, focusing on the cross-over of Irish traditional and Baroque music. Sligo band, Indian will perform from their new studio album, Balloon in a Net in November. Trad and folk highlights include Kevin Burke, Seamie O’Dowd, the Don Baker & Rob Strong Band, Ralph McTell, Nollaig Casey & Arty McGlynn, Seamus Begley, Oisin Mac Diarmada & Samantha Harvey, whilst Sligo Live will see Lisa Hannigan, Saint Sister and Rhiannon Giddens performing at the theatre. Opera lovers will be delighted to hear that Irish National Opera’s production of The Tales of Hoffmann will come to the theatre in October.
New workshops programmed include a Sean Nos Dance Workshop with Karen Tansey, Michele Feeney Singing Workshops, a six-week writing workshop with Brian Leyden, titled On Writing and a one-day workshop with actor, writer and director, Donal O’Kelly, Sailing Solo: Creating Your Own Show. The theatre’s history series, The Way We Were continues and there will be a special exhibition in the theatre foyer about Sligo Port, featuring stories from the Sligo Weekender newspaper archives that shine a light on the people and the industry of this important aspect of Sligo’s trading life.
Comedy highlights include Tommy Tiernan and Deirdre O’Kane and fans of ballet can look forward to Ballet Irelands, The Nutcracker as a pre-Christmas treat. New exciting events for children include The Snail and the Whale, I AM BABA, Science Magic and Silly Song Singalong, along with a host of events as part of the Mad Hatters Party Children’s Festival in November.
The theatre will also host a wonderful Culture Night programme with something for all the family. For the festive season, many annual highlights are programmed in; Coolera Dramatic Society perform Rumplestilzkin as their annual panto; Santa Babies and Christmas Toons with Anything Goes will cater for little ones whilst Sing For The Hell Of It! A Rock n’ Roll Christmas is sure to get everyone in the festive mood.
