Hawk’s Well Shares the Love this Spring.
We are delighted to announce that from Valentine’s Day until Saint Patrick’s Day we are sharing the love from Sligo. Every day at 5pm, the theatre will share songs, tunes and words from Sligo from our Facebook channel and website in an exciting and vibrant new programme that is guaranteed to bring in the positive vibes as the days grow longer and the winter comes to an end.
The Hawk’s Well is proud to be at the heart of the arts sector in this beautiful part of the world, and like all Sligonians, feels lucky to be here during lockdown. The natural beauty of our county has inspired the work of many artists over the years, and many musicians, writers and performers have visited Sligo and made it their home. Sligo is a hub for creativity and the theatre is excited to be sharing songs, tunes and words from Sligo’s artists with the world virtually over the coming weeks.
It all kicks off with Songs from Sligo with Cathy Jordan, from Sun 14 Feb – Sat 20 Feb, at 5pm. As part of the internationally-recognised Dervish musician’s recently announced residency at the Hawk’s Well she has been “collecting Sligo Songs” with a view to a performance of the finished body of work in the theatre at some point in the future. Cathy will give us a preview of some of these songs, as well as treating us to some songs about Sligo that she has been writing herself. All of this will be delivered with her own inimitable wit and style!
It's followed by Tunes from Sligo with Oisín MacDiarmada, from Sun 21 Feb - Sat 27 Feb, at 5pm. Instrumentalist Oisín will share with us the origins of the many wonderful tunes which originate in Sligo, and will post additional information about these tunes on our website for those who are inspired to dig deeper into our rich tradition.
Next, the action moves to more intimate settings, in From Our Home to Yours. Every Sunday from the 28th of February to the 14th of March we will celebrate a creative bubble in Sligo. Join us online for a family performance from one of our many talented families starting with Oisin MacDiarmada and Samantha Harvey on Sunday 28th of February at 8pm followed on Sunday 7th March by Seamie, Rory & Stephen O'Dowd.
We've also got Words and Music from Sligo Artists, where every day throughout March right up until Saint Patrick’s Day we are sharing words or music from a Sligo artist at 5pm on our facebook channel.
And on Saint Patrick’s Day we will be reaching out to the world with a poem from Sligo in With Love from Sligo: A Call from Sligo for Saint Patrick’s Day. You can nominate someone you know who would like to receive a call from Sligo actor Nichola MacEvilly who will read from a selection of poems and prose written about Sligo.
More information on all of these March events and more great events coming soon!
Whether your near or far, be sure to join us and enjoy the depth and talent amongst us.
