Children’s Poet of the Year Competition Now Open!

Children’s Poet of the Year Competition Now Open!
26 May, 2021

We are delighted to announce the return of the Children’s Poet of the Year Competition

In celebration of the Irish poet, dramatist, and prose writer who immortalised Sligo in his works, each year the Hawk’s Well chooses a poem by W.B. Yeats for the competition, and this year the chosen verse is ‘The Cat & The Moon’.

Open to primary school children, students are tasked with writing their own poem with this title, for a competition that will see Hawk's Well Theatre Artist-In-Residence, poet, and author of poetry collection Fox Trousers Eithne Hand act as guest judge.

This year’s prizes include a €100 Voucher to the Hawk's Well Theatre for the winner’s school to put towards their next booking, plus a €45 family pass for Eagles Flying - the largest centre for birds of prey and owls in Ireland. During the highly entertaining and interactive bird show, the prizewinners family will experience eagles, hawks, falcons, vultures and owls - an unforgettable experience for all. Two highly commended entries will also each receive a €45 family pass for Eagles Flying.

The competition is open now to primary school students, and is free to enter. The deadline for submission is Tuesday 1st June, 2021.
