Celebrated Mikel Murfi Plays Return Home to Hawk’s Well!
4 November, 2021

Lauded Loco & Reckless productions The Man in the Woman’s Shoes and I Hear You and Rejoice are returning home, for a run of dates at Hawk’s Well Theatre. Written by and starring Mikel Murfi, the pairing which was originally commissioned by the Hawk's Well with Sligo County Council Arts Service, will take to the stage for sepa-rate billings once again from 10th - 11th November 2021.

Debuting in 2012, The Man in the Woman's Shoes was commissioned for the Bealtaine Festival. The play, which has toured extensively since – including dates at the Irish Arts Centre in New York, has gone on to achieve incredible success. Winning the Stewart Parker BBC Radio Drama Award in 2013, it was nominated for Best New Play in the Irish Times Theatre Awards 2014, and won a Zebby Award (Irish Writers Guild) for best theatre script in 2013.

Since its ’launch, the play has returned to the Hawk’s Well annually, last showing in June 2019, and this upcoming run will provide another opportunity for audiences to experience exceptional world-standard theatre on the local stage.

Hilariously funny, tender and at times downright daft, The Man in The Woman’s Shoes, will leave you uplifted and in love with life again. Set in October 1978, the play follows cobbler Pat Farnon and a cast of unforgettable characters he meets including water diviner Huby Patterson, GAA enthusiast extraordinaire Kitsy Rainey, and an array of farmers all named Gilmartin and Kemp. Pat may be an aging man but he has a boundless enthusiasm for life.

I Hear You and Rejoice meanwhile, is a companion piece to The Man in the Woman’s Shoes, and again features on the affable Pat Farnon, as he marries the re-doubtable Kitsy Rainey, who is everything that Pat isn’t. It’s a match made in heaven, detailing the ups, the downs and the beyond the beyond!

The Man in the Woman’s Shoes takes place Wednesday 10th November, at 8pm. I Hear You and Rejoice follows Thursday 11th November 2021, at 8pm. Tickets for each show, priced €20 conc (plus €1 booking fee) are available now. Please note, in line with Government guidelines, adults (over 18s) will be required to present proof of vaccination/recovery and valid ID for entry and for those aged over 18, wearing of mask/face covering is compulsory at all times inside the building.
