We’re Ready to Talk

ONLINE TICKETED EVENT

"We're Ready to Talk" is a special streamed show produced by the Hawk's Well Theatre as part of the First Fortnight 2022: Ireland's Mental Health Arts & Culture Festival.

We have all experienced the last two years in separate bubbles. It’s been more harrowing than we probably even realise. For this very special streamed show the Hawk's Well has invited author and psychologist Shane Martin and local artists from the region to come together and communally explore the topic of resilience and through art and animated discussion they uncover why some people seem to sail through tough times better than others.

The show reminds us of the healing power of the arts, togetherness and community. Enjoy some beautiful uplifting performances and great conversation from the following local artists:

Aileen Concannon, Niamh Farrell, Nichola MacEvilly, Terry Markey, Charmaine T. Matonsi, Miriam Needham, Seamie O'Dowd, Michael Rooney.

Sligo based psychologist and author Shane Martin says:
We all need to be resilient in these challenging times. The good news is that very simple things can make a huge difference in a world that has become far too complicated.
Resilient people are not supersonic. Resilience is not a magic potion. Science has uncovered specific strategies that lie at the heart of it. With practice we can get better at coping with challenges.
We have an innate capacity to surprise ourselves with how well we can cope with challenges. Very simple strategies make a huge difference.
Artists come together to share how they have coped over the past 22 months. In doing so they can potentially inspire others to rise to the challenges posed by this pandemicBy sharing our coping strategies with others we can essentially inspire others to cope better. This can only be good. Making it into a show makes it more accessible and real.”

Local actor and performer Nichola MacEvilly will host the show.  Nichola commented:

“I really can’t think of a better way to start the year than this! It will be enriching and encouraging. An evening that will inspire optimism and hope as we look to heal and replenish after the challenges we’ve all lived through in recent times. Through music, spoken word and conversation we’ll pave a way forward. It’s time to put the lights back on. In our hearts. In our minds. And in our souls.”

Come over, join this day just begun.
For wherever we come together,
We will forever overcome. - Amanda Gorman
