Sailing Solo: Creating Your Own Showworkshop with Donal O'Kelly
Prior to performing his solo show Bat The Father Rabbit The Son for its 30th anniversary in the Hawk’s Well on Wednesday 24th October, Donal O’Kelly conducts a four-hour workshop on developing your own solo show.
Donal O’Kelly has been involved in acting, writing and directing in Irish theatre for almost forty years. In that time his solo shows Catalpa, Fionnuala, Jimmy Joyced!, Hairy Jaysus and Bat The Father Rabbit The Son have toured globally to high acclaim and several awards.
He specialises in drawing the audience into an imaginary world using words and simple performance skills so the audience are immersed in a story forming in specific detail in their mind’s eye.
The workshop will examine ways of honing text to suit performance, and using performance techniques to enhance and charge up text.
Donal will use samples from his own work for illustration purposes.
Bring loose clothing and runners for light physical workout.
“Magnificent script and performance” – The Scotsman on Bat The Father Rabbit The Son.
“Brilliant writing, bravura performance” – Sunday Times on Catalpa.
