iYeats International Poetry Competition 2017
The iYeats Poetry Competition was launched by the Hawk's Well Theatre in 2009 to mark the 50th Yeats International Summer School and the 70th anniversary of the death of W. B Yeats.
The competition is an annual online international poetry competition which has won a prestigious reputation for the calibre of both entrants and judges. The competition is open to all those who are sixteen years of age and upwards. There is an award of €500 for the winner of the General Category and €300 is awarded to the winner of the Emerging Category for those aged between 16-25 years of age. These awards are presented in a ceremony at the Hawk’s Well during the Yeats Summer School. This year’s judges for the iYeats Poetry Competition are highly respected poets Jessica Traynor and Billy Ramsell.
Jessica Traynor’s debut poetry collection, Liffey Swim (Dedalus Press, 2014), was shortlisted for the 2015 Strong/Shine Award and was named one of the fourteen best poetry debuts of the past five years on U.S. website Bustle.com. Her work has appeared in Poetry Ireland Review, The Penny Dreadful, The Irish Times, and The Stinging Fly among others and has been broadcast on the Poetry Programme, Arena and Sunday Miscellany. She won the 2011 Listowel Poetry Prize and was named the Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year in 2013. Jessica was recipient of the Ireland Chair of Poetry Bursary in 2014 and a runner up in the 2015 Troubadour International Poetry Prize.
Billy Ramsell was born in Cork in 1977 and educated at the North Monastery and UCC.
