Druid ShakespeareRichard II, Henry IV (Pts.1 & 2) and Henry V
An epic story of war, family and the making of nations. DruidShakespeare is the story of three men who would be king. It spans decades, chronicles rebellion, breeds armies and witnesses the rise and fall of great men and those who dare oppose them.
Mark O’Rowe’s adaptation preserves the chronology and condenses Richard II, Henry IV (Pts 1 and 2) and Henry V, into one thrilling drama played out over six hours.
Richard, who has been king since he was eleven, is forced to relinquish the crown to his cousin Henry Bollingbroke. Can a man who has been king all his life become just a man? When Bollingbroke is crowned king his throne is threatened while his son Hal drinks and whores with a band of ne’er-do-goods. Hal’s approach to the throne is to ‘busy giddy minds with foreign quarrels’ but will such a political manoeuvre unite or divide the nation?
This is Shakespeare performed at its best with an exceptional cast, inventive staging, thrilling drama and a rousing parade of characters including one of Shakespeare’s most hilarious comic creations, Falstaff.
Cast: Clare Barrett, Derbhle Crotty, Gavin Drea, Bosco Hogan, Garrett Lombard, Karen McCartney, Charlotte McCurry, Aaron Monaghan, Marie Mullen, Rory Nolan, John Olohan, Aisling O’Sullivan, Marty Rea.
Please note: the performance is 6 hours in length. For further duration information see here.
The performance runs over two days on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tickets are available for both nights, separately so that you can see one or both parts of this epic performance.
Alternatively, you can see the performance in its entirety on Friday and again on Saturday including two intervals and a lunch break.
