Steve Wickham Celebration Night
On Friday the 25th of November, the Hawk’s Well Theatre presents A Night with Steve Wickham – a celebration of Steve Wickham’s musical journey. This special tribute night is part of the Hawk’s Well Theatre’s programme of Celebration Nights, focusing on the achievements of local musicians and artists in a special celebration concert. Previous Celebration Nights celebrated Sligo’s The Jazz Ladds, Rick Epping, Seamie O’Dowd, Eddie Lee, Brian Leyden, Cathy Jordan, Donal ‘the Dude’ McLynn and Sandy Kelly. These nights have proved to be very enjoyable for artists and guests alike, providing a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to artists living and working in our own community who have contributed greatly to the arts.
Steve Wickham’s musical career spans over three decades right back to his early 80’s debut as fiddler with U2 playing on ’Sunday Bloody Sunday‘ and touring with the Irish Rockers. Steve was a founder member of 80s Irish band InTuaNua, signed to the legendary Island records. As a session violinist Wickham has recorded with Elvis Costello and Sinead O’Connor and many others as well as guesting live with REM, Bob Dylan, Patti Smith etc. Steve Wickham is best known as the fiddler with The Waterboys and among Sligo residents as one of the group, NoCrows. This November will see Steve’s return to the Hawk’s Well with previews from a forthcoming new solo album and will also feature some special guests including NoCrows, The Connaught Ramblers, The Lost Brothers, Henry Wickham and Brian McDonagh along with a house band made up of musicians Steve Kohlmann, Daragh Heuston, Glen Garrett and Ray Coen.
This evening will be a celebration of Steve Wickham’s musical journey to date.
