Culture Night at the Hawk’s Well Theatre
For children, Starcatchers and Branar Theatre bring their wonderful show, The Shape of Things, to the theatre on this special day. Set in a soft and tactile environment, this interactive story is told through puppetry, object theatre, music and sound. With two performances, one at 3pm and a second show at 4.15pm, this show is designed for children aged 6 months – 2 years and their adults.
At 8pm, we will host an Irish language edition of popular Books & Wine event, Leabhair agus Fíon. Hosted by Mairéad Ní Ghonlaigh in a friendly, informal and open atmosphere, our special guest this night, Aoife Porter, will share her passion for a favourite book, Aiseirí by Alex Hijmans. As always on these events, wine expert, Bernard Daly will present a wine that complements the writing.
Also at 8pm, a theatrical show by DCM Entertainment will take place in the auditorium. Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell has been adapted for the stage by Phelim Drew and is a show that tells the story of a man, living in Paris, and determined to make a living as a writer. At times funny and entertaining - from meeting a host of wonderful characters to slaving in hotel and restaurant kitchens and finally to tramp the streets of London - it also peppered with the poignant realities of being "At last, genuinely, down and out".
At 10pm, the theatre is delighted to welcome to the stage the incomparable Earl Okin - one of the world’s finest songwriters, jazz singers and comedians. Based in London, Earl has given concerts all over the world in theatres, clubs and festivals, and regularly performs at London’s premier Jazz Club, Ronnie Scott’s and cabaret and concert venues such as Les Crazy Coqs and the Royal Albert Hall. This will be a gig not to miss!
